Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of over 30 extraordinary brands, unveils the new Sheraton Minneapolis Downtown Convention Center (Sheraton Minneapolis Downtown) today. The property— which is set on the site of the city’s historic Capp Towers Motor Hotel—resumes operations following a six-month, $40 million renovation.

Transitioning to a Sheraton, whose properties serve as community hubs for locals and guests around the world, was a natural evolution for the property. Situated in the heart of downtown Minneapolis and just steps from the Minneapolis Convention Center, the 14-story hotel has been a fixture of the Twin Cities for over six decades, serving as the host for countless celebrations, events and gatherings. The new Sheraton Minneapolis Downtown continues this legacy with a modernized guest experience and refreshed amenities that enhance moments of community and connection. Owned and run by the Capp family, the transformed property now boasts an inviting redesign of its 321 guest rooms; design and functional upgrades to all 19 event spaces; added public spaces; two new elevated dining concepts; and a lively indoor pool.

Designed to Gather

Marriott partnered with influential architecture and design firm Gensler to oversee the full scope of the renovation and bring the revitalized Sheraton Minneapolis Downtown to life. Marrying the property’s classic history with Sheraton’s vision to be The World’s Gathering Place, every guest touchpoint was designed to create a warm, approachable atmosphere that serves the needs of modern business and leisure travelers.

What are Smart Hotels?

Sheraton Minneapolis Downtown’s 23,500 square feet of flexible event and meeting spaces accommodate groups of all sizes, from small team trainings to large conventions. Each venue features new light fixtures, updated carpeting, and fresh millwork. Less formal gatherings will find a home in the fully reimagined lobby, the focal point of any Sheraton transformation. New amenities include The Community Table, an inviting, purpose-built workspace that anchors the space and allows for both creativity and productivity; The Booths, soundproofed spaces for focused thinking or calls; and The Studios, hi-tech, light-filled studios for small group meetings.

With decor of light oak, neutral textiles and tan leathers, each guestroom was designed to create a feeling of timeless comfort. Powered height-adjustable tables and ergonomic seating provide guests with a productive workspace during the day, while luxurious Sheraton Sleep Experience platform beds, walk-in showers and offset TV walls offer restful refuge at night. Juxtaposing the rooms’ global feel are vintage advertisements and black and white photography of the original Capp Towers Motor Hotel repurposed as artwork, rooting the cosmopolitan brand in local Minneapolis culture.

Dining for Every Need

Sheraton Minneapolis Downtown’s opening also marks the debut of Esther’s Table, named for Esther Capp, matriarch of the Capp family. Led by Executive Chef Keven Kvalsten, the menu is rooted in the seasonality of the Midwest and the essence of local culture, providing guests and travelers alike with a dining experience that blends charm with a sense of rich history, all in a warm and welcoming setting.

Guests working in the lobby will enjoy &More by Sheraton, the brand’s signature food and beverage concept that serves as the epicenter of the hotel’s welcoming public space. With an all-day menu and assorted beverage options that range from coffee to cocktails, this upgraded take on the traditional hotel bar meets the needs of both guests on the go and those looking to sit, relax and connect.
