Meliá ranks second globally in TIME and Statista’s 2025 sustainability index, cementing its leadership in responsible tourism

Jun 27, 2025

Meliá Hotels International has been named the most sustainable hotel company in Europe and the second worldwide in TIME and Statista’s “World’s 500 Most Sustainable Companies 2025” ranking. The recognition places Meliá among the top 20 Spanish companies overall, reflecting its long-standing commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. This is the second time Meliá has been included in the global list, highlighting the company’s integrated approach to sustainability as a core business principle rather than a separate function.

Key takeaways

  • Top sustainability honors: Meliá is ranked #1 in Europe and #2 globally among hotel companies in the 2025 TIME and Statista sustainability index.
  • Global recognition: Evaluated among over 5,000 companies worldwide through more than 20 rigorous ESG indicators and global frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD).
  • Strong Spanish performance: Meliá is one of the top 20 Spanish firms in the index and the most sustainable hotel group in Spain.
  • Ongoing leadership: The company also ranks as the world’s 3rd most sustainable tourism brand according to S&P Global and leads Merco’s ESG Responsibility ranking in Spain.
  • Core business strategy: Meliá integrates sustainability into every aspect of its operations, aiming to build a more resilient and transformative hospitality model.
