SYDNEY – As new data reveals food insecurity is at an unprecedented high, travellers in Australia and New Zealand can give back to those in need and help reduce food waste by staying at participating IHG Hotels & Resorts this month. For the fourth year running, IHG’s annual ‘Stay for Good’ campaign supports Australia’s leading food rescue charity, OzHarvest, and its New Zealand-based sister organisation, KiwiHarvest, throughout September.
From now to 30 September, $1 from every stay (new and existing direct bookings) at participating IHG Hotels & Resorts properties across Australia and New Zealand will be donated to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest. Every $1 donation provides two meals to people in need, reduces food waste and prevents one kilo of food waste from going to landfill, helping to lower harmful carbon emissions.
The campaign returns as demand for food relief is at an all-time high. Recent data from OzHarvest reveals a growing number families and single parents are struggling to put food on the table, as the ongoing cost of living crisis intensifies and places extraordinary pressure on households. An astonishing 77% of charities have seen an increase in the number of people seeking food support in the last year and nearly one-third (31%) of those seeking food relief are doing so for the first time.

Food relief charities are reporting a 54% increase in the number of people they must turn away – that’s 50,000 people going without support every month – with families (48%) and single parents (31%) representing the largest groups seeking support.
As part of IHG’s broader commitments to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest, the hotel group is on track to deliver its one millionth meal in 2025. Further initiatives such as the Nourish Program and Food Rescue from hotels bolster IHG’s support for these vital organisations year-round.
As more individuals face food insecurity across Australia and New Zealand, our partnership with OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest only becomes more important. In the fourth year of Stay for Good, we’re helping our guests transform their travel into meals for people who need them most, while protecting the planet at the same time. Matt Tripolone, Managing Director, Australasia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts
Guests can Stay For Good by booking a stay at any of its 47 participating IHG Hotels & Resorts during the month of September or to donate via the Stay for Good donation pages.
The commitment to supporting OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest forms a part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Journey to Tomorrow responsible business plan that includes an ambitious goal of improving the lives of 30 million people by 2030. IHG works side by side with its guests, employees, and partners to help shape the future of responsible travel as part of the plan.
