On September 4, the Auberge Port-Gitana reopened its doors in Bellevue after 30 months of renovation led by the Gourmet Brothers group.
A unique setting on the shores of Lake Geneva
With its 18 rooms, a lakeside brasserie featuring a panoramic terrace just 30 meters from the water, and exceptional views of Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, the property stands out as the only boutique hotel with direct lake access. This marks the first hotel venture for the Geneva-based group, already renowned for its gastronomic expertise.
A legendary heritage
Founded in 1875 by Baroness Julie de Rothschild, Port-Gitana was originally a steamboat pavilion and has played a significant role in Geneva’s history. By the 1930s, it had become a social hotspot, welcoming icons such as Louis de Funès and Jeanne Moreau.
Design & architecture: Geneva chic meets Riviera style
The creative duo of Atelier ba.le (Robin Bader) and Youri Kravtchenko (Ykra Studio) has shaped an atmosphere where refined modernism, vintage spirit, and pastel Riviera tones harmonize.
- Architecture: clean, light-filled lines that maximize natural light.
- Interior design: a Lake Geneva-inspired setting that oscillates between casual chic and Riviera atmosphere. The result: an ambiance both elegant and relaxed, true to the soul of Port-Gitana.
- 18 light-filled rooms and suites, with balconies and large bay windows opening onto the lake and Mont Blanc.
A lakeside brasserie serving local flavors
Orchestrated by Chef Romain Maillot (from La Réserve Genève to La Cordée des Alpes in Verbier), the menu showcases local products and brasserie classics, with a nod to the treasures of the lake: perch fillets with Gitana butter, “sea and lake” bouillabaisse, and reinvented eggs with mayonnaise. On the sweet side, the dessert trolley tempts with a revisited double cream meringue, original pastry creations, and the must-haves from Tout Chocolat, the group’s patisserie.
The bar, steeped in history, evokes a port of call with design inspired by vintage teak boats on Lake Geneva. Dressed in Calacatta marble, warm wood, and antique objects, it embodies both the charm of yesteryear and contemporary elegance. More than just a place to socialize, it is designed as a discreet tribute to the lake and the unique history of the location.
