A division of FB Society plans a 35,000-square-foot food offering, called Shaver Hall, in New York City’s former Lord & Taylor building, the company said.
FB Society said Shaver Hall, which is expected to open later this year in Amazon’s Hank Building at 424 Fifth Ave., will feature 11 food stalls, including an omakase concept, a wine and cheese bar, a steakhouse, and a modern bodega.
“This project has been in the works for over three years, and finally getting to release these designs is a major milestone,” Randy DeWitt, co-founder of The Food Hall Co., said in a statement. “We see Shaver Hall as a chance to reimagine the food hall experience in Midtown—creating a space built for connection, community, and culinary discovery, with the freedom to spotlight emerging chefs and the latest food trends.”
The architect behind Shaver Hall is ZGF, known for projects such as the Portland International Airport renovation and Google’s Spruce Goose Hangar.
“The rich heritage of the Lord & Taylor building provided an incredible framework,” Daniel Ghesquiere, associate principal of ZGF Architecture, said. “Our goal was to honor the space’s legacy while fostering a dynamic and modern future for New York’s food scene.”
ICrave, a Journey Studio, a design firm, transformed the food hall with rich jewel tones, metallic accents, warm woods, and textured surfaces that celebrate the building’s history. Woven canopies unify the individual stalls, and tenant signs are inspired by fashion labels. ICrave led interior and lighting design for the Sphere in Las Vegas, as well as conceptual design for Chase Sapphire airport lounges.
“Lord & Taylor has a rich history of fostering talent and showcasing innovative tastemakers through its iconic window displays, giving New Yorkers a glimpse into emerging fashion trends,” Jesse MacDougall, principal at ICrave, said.
Shaver Hall is named for Dorothy Shaver, who served as Lord & Taylor’s president from 1945 to 1959.
The Food Hall Co. operates Legacy Hall in Plano, Texas, and Assembly Food Hall in Nashville, Tenn. FB Society has more than 20 brands, including Haywire, The Ranch at Las Colinas, Mexican Sugar, Whiskey Cake, Sixty Vines, Ida Claire, and Son of a Butcher.
