Mandarin Oriental will take over management of the San Clemente Palace Hotel in Venice, with plans to rebrand the historic resort as Mandarin Oriental, Venice in April 2026. The hotel is located on a five-hectare private island in the Venetian lagoon, an eight-minute boat ride from San Marco Square.

“We are delighted to bring Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service to Venice. This historic property, with its unique location and rich heritage, aligns perfectly with our vision to craft immersive experiences that allow guests to connect meaningfully with the destination. By adding Venice to our Italian portfolio, we enrich our circuit of destinations across Italy, adding to our current hotels in Milan and Lake Como as well as our upcoming openings in Rome, Cortina and Porto Cervo,” said Laurent Kleitman, group chief executive of Mandarin Oriental.

The hotel will remain under Mandarin Oriental management until its seasonal closure in November 2025, after which a three-phase renovation will begin. Interior design will be led by Albion Nord, with the updated property set to include 136 rooms and suites combining Venetian charm with Mandarin Oriental’s design philosophy.

The hotel is housed in 900-year-old monastery buildings surrounded by curated gardens and includes a 12th century church. Amenities will include four dining venues, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, an outdoor pool, and courts for tennis and paddle. The spa will offer signature treatments alongside wellness facilities such as a Finnish sauna, steam bath, multi-sensory showers and a yoga pavilion.

Events spaces will take advantage of the island’s natural surroundings, and a dedicated children’s area will offer activities for younger guests.

“We are delighted to partner with Mandarin Oriental to usher in a new era for the San Clemente Palace. As one of Venice’s most storied private islands, this landmark deserves the legendary service and refined hospitality that Mandarin Oriental is renowned for. We look forward to seeing the property’s transformation unfold and welcoming guests to an unparalleled luxury experience in this extraordinary setting,” said Emir Uyar, vice president of Permak Investment.
