Newport Hospitality Group (NHG) proudly announces the addition of the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Columbia Northwest/Harbison to its portfolio of managed hotels. Located at 438 Columbiana Drive, this 99-suite extended-stay property officially joined the Newport family on June 26, 2025. It is owned by Fenil Desai, representing his first Marriott hotel investment.

This addition strengthens Newport’s operational footprint in Columbia, where it has delivered consistent performance for 19 years. The company now manages three properties in the market:
• TownePlace Suites Columbia Northwest/Harbison
• Hilton Garden Inn Columbia/Harbison (directly next door)
• TownePlace Suites Columbia Southeast/Fort Jackson

Fresh off a renovation in 2024, the newly refreshed hotel offers spacious suites with full kitchens, ergonomic workstations, and complimentary Wi-Fi—ideal for extended-stay guests, including project teams, relocating families, healthcare travelers, and government contractors. Its location adjacent to the Hilton Garden Inn Columbia/Harbison creates synergistic potential, positioning Newport to serve a wider range of guest segments across both transient and long-term business. Situated near key demand drivers such as Lexington Medical Center, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Prisma Health, and the South Carolina Department of Revenue, and just steps from Columbiana Centre, the hotel is strategically located within one of Columbia’s busiest commercial corridors. With strong relationships in the market and a deep understanding of demand patterns in the Harbison area, Newport is well-positioned to leverage its complementary assets to capture extended-stay business, expand corporate partnerships, and drive sustainable performance across the region.

“We’re excited to welcome this exceptional property and its dedicated team to Newport,” said Wayne West III, President of Newport. “Columbia continues to be a strong market for us, and this hotel adds depth to our offerings in the Harbison area. We’re especially grateful to Fenil Desai for the trust he’s placed in our team with his first Marriott investment.”

To ensure a seamless transition, Newport’s corporate team—alongside Lizz Chambers, Vice President of People—spent the week on site, working shoulder-to-shoulder with the hotel team. New associates participated in immersive onboarding sessions, Newport’s service values training, and culture-building conversations that laid the foundation for long-term success.

“This property fills a distinct need in the market,” added Shawn Wallick, Vice President and Chief Development Officer. “It complements our Hilton Garden Inn next door and allows us to serve guests we couldn’t accommodate before. The extended-stay model and full kitchens make it ideal for long-term business and relocation, while the proximity to additional amenities adds convenience for all.”
