Amsterdam-based boutique chain Sir Hotels has opened its first London hotel in Devonshire Square, near Spitalfields Market and the City.

The 81-room property, including 14 suites, is housed in a restored 17th Century textile warehouse. Interiors were designed by Maison 191, led by Samuel Wright, with references to Bauhaus geometry, textile artist Anni Albers and mid-20th Century architects.

Rooms feature custom furniture, natural materials and views of Devonshire Square and the city skyline.

The hotel opens with an all-day dining concept, open to both hotel guests and the public. Serving contemporary easy plates, the menu spans breakfast through dinner, with lunch and evening offerings including a selection of easy seasonal dishes prepared by Sir’s chefs, complemented by a cocktail and wine programme.

A cultural programme will include music, art and design events, with a rotating exhibition of emerging London artists displayed in the lobby.

Through its Sir Cares initiative, the hotel has partnered with London social mobility group 20/20 Levels, inviting guests to contribute £1 at booking to support mentoring, skills training and career development schemes.

Further facilities are due to open in phases, including Sircle Collection’s private members’ club, The Cover, a main restaurant and a gym.

Mark Jonathan Heyburn, general manager of Sir Devonshire Square, said: “We’re so proud to offer something truly distinctive in London. Sir Devonshire Square combines the intimacy of a boutique hotel with a strong connection to our East London creative spirit, with the refined design and comfort Sir Hotels is known for.”
