Blending history and modernity, Ming Hotel Nanjing MGallery Collection by One House Design transforms cultural heritage into a serene sanctuary of daily rituals and refined contemporary living.
Nanjing has long held a place of prestige on China’s cultural map. Once the capital of six dynasties and later the seat of the Republic of China, the city embodies a depth of history balanced with modern vitality. Its Changjiang Road forms the backbone of this narrative, connecting landmarks such as the Presidential Palace, Meiyuan Xincun Memorial Hall, and the Six Dynasties Museum. Stately residences and institutions line its path, each preserving moments of collective memory. Just beyond, the shimmering Xuanwu Lake and the storied Qinhuai River frame the city in natural poetry, while French plane trees, tiled roofs, and riverside alleys complete a portrait of refined Jiangnan charm.

An Urban Retreat Along Changjiang Road
It is along this axis of memory and modernity that Ming Hotel Nanjing MGallery Collection quietly emerges. Designed by One House Design under the direction of Fang Lei, the hotel is conceived as a cultural sanctuary where history, nature, and contemporary living coexist. Embracing its setting among plane trees and waterways, the project reflects the duality of Nanjing—serene yet vibrant. The design language draws inspiration from symbols of water, mountains, and cultural tradition, narrating daily life and emotion through spatial experiences.

The Literati’s Lobby
Arrival begins with the quiet dignity of a scholar’s retreat. Bamboo textures, antique-inspired brickwork, and warm stone finishes create a contemplative ambiance, softened by ceiling installations that filter light with the delicacy of paper screens. Behind the reception, a softly illuminated relief depicts mountain silhouettes—an homage to the rolling landscapes that surround Nanjing. The lobby thus becomes more than a threshold: it is the first chapter in a cultural dialogue between guest and city.

Legacy and the Art of Framing
The narrative extends into the Lobby Bar, where woven ceilings, translucent acrylic, and metallic details merge tradition with contemporary refinement. A winding staircase doubles as a sculptural centerpiece, its acrylic panels glowing like brushstrokes from a landscape painting. Light and shadow play across surfaces, recalling the shifting atmospheres of Chinese ink art. Even the elevator hall becomes poetic: intricate acrylic textures scatter shadows like plane tree leaves dancing in sunlight, reminding guests of the city beyond the walls.

Courtyard Shadows at M Bistro
Ascending to the second floor, M Bistro resonates with calm intimacy. Its stone reception counter faces a leafy screen, setting up a dialogue between stillness and motion. Fabric wall coverings abstract the city’s mountains, rivers, and textile traditions, while black shell limestone dining tables glisten like rain-soaked alleyways. In a curved alcove, amber acrylic panels glow softly, displaying vessels of tea—a design gesture that revives Nanjing’s tea culture, from Ming dynasty gatherings to lively Republic-era teahouses. Dining here feels less like a meal and more like participating in a cultural ritual.

Guestrooms: A Gentle Dwelling
The hotel offers five distinct room categories, ranging from 41.5 sqm to 178 sqm, each conceived as a gentle dwelling for unhurried living. Facing tree-lined Changjiang Road, expansive windows frame natural greenery and urban rhythms. Custom fabrics reinterpret aerial views of city walls and waterways, weaving subtle narratives of Nanjing into the décor. Bamboo textures and travertine etched with riverside motifs extend the cultural thread, while thoughtful furniture placement creates seamless zones for rest, reading, or quiet work.

Comfort in Everyday Rituals
Beyond aesthetics, the guestrooms are designed for genuine residential comfort. Fully equipped kitchens with ovens, induction cooktops, cookware, and coffee machines allow guests to prepare meals at their own pace. Ergonomic furnishings, complete laundry facilities, and calming beige-and-wood palettes further enhance the home-like experience. For long-stay travelers, this functionality allows for both convenience and authenticity—bridging the line between hotel luxury and daily living.

Suites, Terraces, and Skyline Views
On the upper levels, suites expand into private terraces offering uninterrupted views of Nanjing’s skyline. These outdoor sanctuaries become settings for daily rituals—morning coffee, afternoon tea, or an intimate evening meal—framed by the city’s shifting light. Adjoining the terraces, Ming Bar provides a communal yet intimate perch above the city, balancing solitude with convivial energy.

Wellness and Vibrant Living
The Executive Lounge continues the design’s contemplative rhythm. Gentle curves, subdued tones, and a rippling stone bar suggest water’s reflective calm, while custom blue carpets and wooden screens lend refinement. The lower-level fitness spaces—yoga studio, gym, and pool—merge wood, stone, and mirrors within a warm palette. The infinity-edge swimming pool, enclosed in glass and travertine, creates a serene environment where water and light become immersive elements. The banquet hall, with its bamboo detailing and layered lighting, provides an adaptable stage for both business gatherings and cultural celebrations.

An Urban Sanctuary
From the lobby’s scholarly grace to the guestrooms’ intimate warmth, from terraces overlooking city lights to tranquil wellness retreats, Ming Hotel Nanjing MGallery Collection embodies the spirit of an “urban sanctuary.” Every space fosters an ease of belonging—allowing travelers to reconnect with themselves while engaging with the city’s cultural rhythm. It is at once refined and welcoming, historic yet contemporary, distant yet familiar—a true home away from home for the modern traveler.
