The company has notified numerous tour and adventure operators around the world that their offerings will be removed from the platform

May 20, 2024

The company stated that the decision was made after evaluating the experience based on “the host’s expertise, the uniqueness and local relevance of the activity, and guest ratings and reviews,” and determined that it “did not meet our standards.”

Key takeaways

  • Airbnb will remove these listings on June 20, cancel reservations made after that date, and issue refunds to guests;
  • Shwetank Tripathi, an operator based in India, expressed his disappointment, saying, “They are removing my experiences, which had the highest rating on Airbnb. I have no idea why they are doing this… I am sad because I was getting a good number of bookings through Airbnb;”
  • Earlier this month, Airbnb unveiled its new Icons experiences to mixed reactions in the industry, suggesting that these pop culture-themed offerings would set the direction for future experiences.
