TikTok and Google Maps make for a ‘killer combination’ for many young people planning their travel itineraries. Here’s an example of how one person is using it

In recent years, short-form video content has become impossible to ignore. Almost every social platform, from Instagram Reels to YouTube Shorts, now offers its own version, providing quick, real-time information. Given this trend, it’s no surprise that many are now turning to TikTok for travel advice.

  • Planning a trip used to be stressful and overwhelming, sifting through outdated blogs to decide where to go and what to do. But with TikTok, the process has become much easier. Within a day or two of the algorithm recognizing my upcoming trip to Portugal, casually scrolling through my “For You” page began to feel productive;
  • Every few videos, I saved a “must-see” location to my “where to go” list on Google Maps. By the time I was ready to leave for Portugal, my navigation app was filled with green pins marking these spots around the country. It felt like I had effortlessly completed months of research;
  • The ability to cross-reference places and activities on TikTok is unparalleled. In addition, the ability to save videos in named folders is exceptional. By organizing videos into folders based on location, I can easily refresh my memory on the way to each destination.
