8 in 10 active leisure travelers are interested in traveling abroad within the next two years, according to new MMGY findings

Jul 1, 2024

Exploring topics such as the classic American road trip and the rise of cannabis tourism, MMGY’s Travel Intelligence released the “Summer Edition” of its acclaimed research study, Portrait of American Travelers.

Key takeaways

  • Travel intentions have increased over last year for nearly all income groups. Travel spending intentions for the next year are at their highest level since the COVID-19 pandemic, driven primarily by Boomers and households earning $100,000 or more;
  • Hawaii (67%), Florida (64%), Colorado (59%) and California (59%) remain the top states for leisure travelers, with Florida, Colorado and California showing statistically significant year-over-year increases;
  • While other generations are either increasing or holding steady in their travel intentions, Gen Z continues to experience a steady decline.
