Travelers can now use the Smart Filter tool to describe their ideal property in their own words

Oct 31, 2024

Booking.com has rolled out a major update to its AI travel planner in its mobile app, allowing users to search for accommodations based on specific criteria and ask about specific properties. For example, users can ask for “hotels in Amsterdam with a great gym, rooftop bar, and canal views from the room” or “does the hotel’s pet policy accept large dogs?”

Key takeaways

  • When users enter a search query, the AI scans Booking.com’s inventory and applies the most relevant filters, eliminating the need for manual adjustments;
  • To answer property-specific questions, the AI reviews property listings, traveler feedback and images. Users can currently ask these questions through the general AI chatbot, with a dedicated version for individual property pages on the way;
  • In addition, Booking.com will soon introduce AI-generated review summaries, allowing users to access key insights about a property without having to wade through numerous reviews;
  • Looking ahead, the company plans to expand its AI capabilities to help travelers with trip management, including flight disruption solutions;
  • The AI Travel Planner is currently available to users in the U.S., U.K., Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, with plans to launch in local languages for users in Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Poland and the Netherlands in the coming months.
