You’ve heard of Black Friday. But today’s consumers increasingly shop for trips on Travel Tuesday. How can travel industry players benefit from this trend?

The significant consumer focus on Black Friday has led to similar marketing initiatives on adjacent days. The latest addition to this Thanksgiving-related marketing trend is Travel Tuesday, a day dedicated to finding deals on travel-related purchases such as hotel bookings and airline tickets.

  • According to a report released Thursday by McKinsey & Company, search interest for “Travel Tuesday” will increase by more than 500% from 2021 to 2023;
  • While search activity is highest among American and Canadian consumers, interest is also growing in Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Spain, McKinsey found;
  • Google Trends data shows that searches for “Travel Tuesday” began in November 2017, declined during the pandemic, and then increased significantly in 2022 and 2023, particularly in North America, Western Europe, and Australia;
