A December 2024 Future Partners survey of 4,000 American travelers found that 31.7% feel their household’s financial situation has improved over the past year

Jan 16, 2025

American traveler sentiment is expected to drive a strong start for the travel industry in 2025. Travel brands should pay attention to trends shaping travel spending and behavior, such as buy now, pay later options, political affiliation, school vacations, and AI expectations.

Key takeaways

  • As 2024 came to a close, American travelers maintained a steady sense of financial well-being. In December 2024, 31.7% of respondents felt their household was better off financially than the previous year;
  • This positive sentiment is reflected in travel spending, with 36.9% of American travelers now considering it a good or very good time to spend on travel, the highest level since February 2022 (37.8%);
  • In terms of travel volume, the typical American traveler expects to take 3.9 leisure trips in the coming year, up from 3.5 trips last year.
