Tivoli Hotels & Resorts expanded in Portugal with the opening of Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia Hotel, located on the south bank of the Douro River in Vila Nova de Gaia. The hotel offers panoramic views of Porto and combine Tivoli’s hospitality heritage with the history of Kopke, the oldest Port Wine House, established in 1638.
Historic setting and scenic views
The hotel is located within the restored Kopke wine cellars, covering 20,000 square meters with terraces inspired by the Douro vineyards. Guests can enjoy views of Porto, the Douro River, and the Luís I Bridge. The property consists of three distinct sections—Vintage, Tawny, and White—surrounding a historic wine cellar that holds over two million liters of aging Kopke Port wine. This cellar will soon be accessible for tastings and events.
Accommodations and facilities
Designed for both business and leisure travelers, the hotel features 149 guest rooms, including 10 suites, blending contemporary design with warm earth tones and soft textures that reflect the region’s winemaking heritage. The property also offers extensive leisure facilities, including two swimming pools, a fitness center, and 9,000 square meters of landscaped gardens for outdoor events.
“We are delighted to announce this exciting upcoming addition to the Tivoli portfolio in the Porto region with a truly special partnership with Kopke. With a beautiful and privileged location, this property will offer exceptional facilities to both business and leisure guests, connecting them with the world of port wine in a very exclusive way. We are honoured to be working with the team at Kopke to bring this property to fruition.” – Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO Minor International and CEO Minor Hotels, parent company of Tivoli Hotels & Resorts
Dining and wine experiences
The hotel’s culinary offerings include a fine-dining restaurant, an all-day dining venue, a wine bar, and a rooftop bar. Guests will also have access to the historic Kopke Port Wine cellar, where they can participate in exclusive tastings and immersive experiences celebrating Port wine culture.
Wellness and spa services
The Tivoli Spa features treatments inspired by local elements, including a wine-infused Reserve Spa Experience. Additional wellness amenities will include a sauna, steam room, hydrodynamic pool, and spaces designed for relaxation with views of Porto.
Business and event spaces
With six meeting rooms and 1,750 square meters of flexible indoor and outdoor event spaces, the hotel can accommodate corporate gatherings, weddings, and special occasions, with the option of hosting events within the Kopke wine cellar.
“We’re very proud to present our first hotel in partnership with Tivoli brand. This collaboration reflects our ambitions for the property and we believe that the partnership with Minor Hotels will be able to create a new world-class hotel that celebrates luxury and wine in a stunning location surrounded by unique world heritage, and paying homage to centuries of history.” – Pedro Braga, CEO Sogevinus, parent company of Kopke
Located near the Gaia riverfront and within walking distance of local attractions, the hotel offers convenient access to Porto’s historic center. The property is also a short drive from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport.
Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, founded in Lisbon in 1933, has expanded globally with properties in Brazil, Qatar, China, and more recently in Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands. Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia will be its ninth property in Portugal, further enhancing the brand’s presence in the country.
