Nestled in Bali’s buzzy yet refined coastal enclave of Pererenan, Neon Rose Motel has officially opened its rose-toned doors. With just four uniquely designed rooms, the new boutique stay reimagines the retro motel concept through a bold, contemporary lens.

Playful, stylish, and quietly conscious, Neon Rose is a sanctuary for travellers seeking a home base that’s self-sufficient and rich in character. While Bali is known for its lush villas, high-end resorts, and traditional homestays, Neon Rose offers a fresh, design-led alternative that reflects a more independent way to stay. Tucked down a secret alleyway, guests follow subtle clues: a neon sign, a whisper of “this must be the place,” before arriving at the hidden hideaway. Neon Rose leans into the rockstar edge of the word motel with a wink to nostalgia and an irreverent spirit.

Originally conceived as a bread factory, the 2019 site was reimagined post-pandemic into a micro motel concept that fills a gap in the market: elevated, self-contained accommodation with edge. Ten minutes from the beach and steps from the island’s best artisan coffee, scenery gyms, boho boutiques, authentic warungs, Padel, and vinyasa flows, it’s set in the heart of Pererenan, recently named one of the 38 coolest neighbourhoods in the world by Time Out. Guests check in solo and do Bali their way, no front desk fuss required.

Created by Malaysian-born, Australian entrepreneur and hospitality creative Min Siah, Neon Rose is the latest concept from the founder of Singapore and Bali’s cult-favourite bakeries Starter Lab and Wheatfields Bakery. “Pererenan is where it’s at,” says Siah, who has called Bali home for over 12 years. “You get great food, art, design, and culture, without the chaos of Canggu. It’s close to the action, but with a calmer pace and village feel. I didn’t want Neon Rose to be just a stylish crash pad; it’s for travellers who want to plug into the local frequency.”

That thinking led to the creation of the Local Legends card, a curated guide to the best of Pererenan, with exclusive perks at her hand-picked favourites – from renowned restaurants like Mason Group’s Bar Vera and HOME by Chef Wayan, to yoga studios and indie galleries and shops like Mrs Potter.

Design Led, Soulfully Constructed

Brought to life in collaboration with Singapore-based architect Chin Nyap of A Good Lab, an Architect based in Singapore known for leading the project team behind The Singapore EDITION Hotel, Neon Rose ditches the cookie-cutter and leans hard into texture, curves, and character. The four suites are anything but basic: ochre-washed walls, feature archways, and breeze blocks that allow sunlight to filter through in soft spotlight.

Inside, it’s equal parts style and substance. The vibe? Bold, unfussy, quietly luxe with just the right hint of rebellion. Each room comes with a cushy daybed for working (or napping, no judgment), speedy Wi-Fi, and those perfectly round windows that offer a glimpse into temple rooftops and daily life outside.

The two Work Suites feature built-in daybeds and custom desks, ideal for remote workers or longer stays. Meanwhile, the Bath Suites come with oversized tubs that channel serious hammam energy, perfect for guests chasing that slow, restorative, maybe-even-romantic kind of stay.

But it’s the little things that make a big statement. Blackout curtains for your late-night shenanigans. A water dispenser so you can hydrate without guilt (or plastic). International power points so you don’t fry your charger. Pods with locally roasted coffee, snuggly waffle robes, and custom-blended bath products by Bali Radiance in rose, frankincense and neroli, designed to make you feel (and smell) like your best self.

Sustainability wasn’t an afterthought, it was baked into the design from conception. In the bathrooms, every surface from floor to ceiling is finished in a custom blush-toned plaster by local studio Altarize, using a tadelakt technique, an ancient Moroccan method traditionally used in hammams that creates a smooth, waterproof surface with a soft, velvety sheen. This version blends glass recycled from the food industry, sugarcane fibre, sawdust and char, giving it texture, depth and eco-cred in equal measure. The dusty rose shade became the muse for the entire property, inspiring the name Neon Rose and anchoring the motel’s irreverent, design-forward personality.

Local Spirit, Light Impact

Neon Rose is founded on a belief in protecting the beauty of Bali and honouring it through thoughtful practices woven into the fabric of the stay. In addition to using eco-friendly finishes, the team partners with Joseph Recycling, a homegrown initiative founded by an Indonesian student who transforms plastic waste into handcrafted keychains while raising funds to send children to school.

Each suite features a free gallon of locally sourced Balian water to reduce bottled water consumption, with any leftovers used to water the gardens. Additionally, 1 percent of each night’s stay is donated to Sungai Watch, a grassroots initiative dedicated to cleaning and protecting Bali’s waterways.
