“If our retro-futuristic diner turns out well, which I think it will, @Tesla will establish these in major cities around the world, as well as at Supercharger sites on long distance routes,” Musk wrote on X. “An island of good food, good vibes & entertainment, all while Supercharging!”
Digital Ordering & Car-Based UX
One of Tesla Diner’s innovations is its digital ordering system, optimized for in-vehicle use. According to Eater, the system detects when a guest’s vehicle is within 15–20 minutes of arrival and automatically begins preparing the order. Guests can then choose to eat inside or have food delivered directly to their car.
Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, was on-site during the grand opening, serving popcorn to guests. Human staff can be seen working the kitchen and managing food prep and service in video footage posted on the NY Post.
Food can be ordered either inside the restaurant or remotely via Tesla’s in-car interface. The menu includes traditional diner staples—burgers, hot dogs, club sandwiches, bacon and desserts—as well as coffee, iced tea, and fountain drinks.
A Modern Drive-In
Tesla Diner plans to show movies and other special features on the two 66-foot LED megascreens. Content can be streamed on-site via the Tesla Diner app, viewable from the upper-level “Skypad” or from parked vehicles in a drive-in-style layout. In a modern twist on drive-in theatres, guests can also watch the movies inside their Tesla vehicle in the parking lot using the Tesla Diner app.
The restaurant also sells a limited selection of Tesla merchandise including apparel, lifestyle items and candy. New products will be continually released, so the merchandise selection will change over time, the company said.
