Opened in summer 2025, Hannah St. Hotel marks a significant addition to Melbourne’s inner city landscape, which is already primed for transformation through the $1.7 billion Melbourne Arts Precinct redevelopment. The $150 million boutique hotel – developed by Time & Place, in partnership with MaxCap Group, TFE Hotels, and construction specialists Hickory – provides a further boost to Southbank’s tourism offering.
Located within the landmark Queensbridge Building – a new multi-use development in the heart of Southbank – Hannah St. Hotel forms part of a broader vision to revitalise the area and connect hospitality, culture, and urban life.
The hotel’s name pays tribute to Patrick Hanna, a pioneering engineer and shipbuilder from Glasgow who arrived in Melbourne in 1853. At the height of the gold rush, Hanna operated a punt across the Yarra River, connecting the emerging township of Emerald Hill (now South Melbourne) with the bustling northern docks and marketplaces. His route would eventually evolve into Kings Way – one of Melbourne’s grand avenues.
Purpose-built for the Collection by TFE Hotels brand, Hannah St. Hotel is designed to reflect and amplify the unique character of its surroundings. Hannah St. Hotel stands on a site once known as Hanna Street, a lane that quietly adopted an extra ‘H’ over time. This subtle transformation mirrors the city’s own evolution – from gold rush boomtown to cultural capital – and anchors the hotel in a rich historical narrative that continues to shape Melbourne’s identity. Located at the convergence of the Yarra River, South Melbourne, and the city’s vibrant Southbank arts and events precincts, the 188-room Hannah St. Hotel spans 10 levels and features a neighbourhood restaurant and bar, as well as an elevated bar and events space.
The hotel joins The Eve Hotel and The Hotel Britomart in further expanding the Collection by TFE Hotels portfolio of design-led, one-of-a-kind properties.
