As of August 2024, more than 5,000 hotels worldwide have been verified under the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) “Hotel Sustainability Basics” framework. Are you part of it? Let’s take a quick look at what’s driving this global movement.
The Hotel Sustainability Basics program outlines 12 key actions every hotel can take to minimize environmental impact and maximize social benefit. These include reducing energy and water use, cutting waste, eliminating single-use plastics, and supporting local communities. Verification is conducted through independent partners such as Greenview and SGS, ensuring credibility and transparency.
Leading hotel groups including Jin Jiang International, Louvre Hotels Group, Choice Hotels International, and Radisson Hotel Group have committed to the framework, together representing thousands of properties across multiple regions.
Sustainability is now a baseline expectation. By adopting WTTC’s framework, hotels not only meet global ESG standards but also create unforgettable experiences that respect people, communities, and the planet, inspiring travellers to make conscious choices.
