The Falkland Islands Tourist Board is determined to transform the way visitors explore one of the world’s most remote and unique archipelagos with its new digital tool.

Considered ‘groundbreaking’, the Explore Falkland Islands App has been made possible thanks to a partnership with Europe’s leading digital platform for outdoor adventure, Outdooractive.

The app provides visitors free access to nearly 100 official walking and off-road routes, complete with offline maps and detailed guides.

The Falkland Islands, often described as a walker’s paradise, are now more accessible than ever, thanks to the app’s easy-to-use navigation, trusted local information, and inspiring content showcasing the Falklands’ dramatic landscapes and extraordinary wildlife.

From full-day treks across rugged terrain to gentle beachside strolls among penguin colonies, the app provides the tools for visitors to explore with confidence and discover the hidden stories of the islands’ history and nature.

In a swift and well-coordinated effort, the app was developed and delivered in just seven weeks from idea to launch, a testament to the efficiency of the collaboration between Outdooractive and the Falkland Islands Tourist Board.

Craig Wareham, global director B2C & UK CEO at Outdooractive, said: “The Falkland Islands are one of the world’s most distinctive walking destinations, and we’re proud to have helped make their official routes and points of interest digitally accessible in such a short time frame.

“The Explore Falkland Islands App allows visitors to immerse themselves in this truly unspoiled landscape, supported by reliable offline mapping, and rich storytelling.”

The app also strengthens the Falkland Islands’ visibility in global markets as part of an ongoing partnership with Outdooractive to enhance the destination’s digital presence.

Since June 2022, the Falkland Islands Tourist Board has utilised Outdooractive’s Destination Pro+ and White-Label Website solutions. In early 2025, a targeted content and marketing campaign introduced new branded Points of Interest and routes, refreshed destination content, and optimised key landing pages.

This activity was amplified through a multilingual, multi-channel campaign across Outdooractive.com, the mobile app, and newsletter channels.

Complementing these efforts, the Explore Falkland Islands app is available for free on iOS and Android, with routes and content also featured on Outdooractive’s international platform, connecting with more than 60 million outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.

Stephanie Middleton, Executive Director, Falkland Islands Tourist Board, said:  “Our goal in developing this bespoke mobile application was to give visitors the tools to experience the Falklands independently, safely, and sustainably.

“Outdooractive provided the ideal platform for us to create a custom digital experience without starting from scratch, their white-label solution offered the right balance between efficiency and individuality — allowing us to focus on curating authentic Falkland Islands content while benefiting from their advanced mapping and navigation technology.”

With more than 700 islands to explore, the Falklands offer boundless opportunities for adventure. The app highlights the best places to spot king penguins, rockhoppers, and gentoos, while also guiding visitors to historic sites, secluded coves, and dramatic coastlines.
