With the big day just around the corner, the festive spirit is in full swing. But amid the celebrations, it’s worth asking: Can Christmas be joyful and sustainable at the same time?
I have outlined a vision for a greener Christmas in 2025. Curious to know if you’re thinking along the same lines
Reimagined Holiday Décor: Circular, Not Disposable
- “Living” lobbies with rented, potted native trees that continue life beyond the season.
- Upcycled elegance, where décor is crafted from recycled glass or dried botanicals by local artisans.
- Light over matter, using projection mapping to create immersive winter atmospheres without physical waste.
Waste Reduction by Design
- Root-to-Shoot Galas: Designing festive menus where every part of the ingredient is used, drastically cutting food waste.
- Digital > Physical: Why wrap cheap plastic amenities? Let’s switch to digital experiences (spa credits, local tours) or zero-waste, edible gifts.
Guest Interaction & Shared Values Guests
- Introduce a “Green Gift” option, allowing guests to opt out of housekeeping in exchange for a donation to a local charity.
- Program interactive workshops (upcycling, sustainable cooking) as part of the holiday activities calendar.
Which of these shifts resonates most with your hotel’s vision? Or did I miss a strategy you are already planning? Share your opinions with us.
