A piece of New York’s scientific past is getting a stylish new chapter. The historic Chemists’ Club building at 52 East 41st Street, near the New York Public Library and once a hub for leading scientists and industry pioneers since 1898, has been reimagined as The Chemists’ Club Hotel, converting from its prior iteration as The Dylan Hotel.

Designed by Ilmiodesign, the hotel features 107 rooms and suites, including the Alchemy Suite and a penthouse with panoramic views of Manhattan. The interiors blend contemporary design with subtle nods to the building’s history. Guests can expect upscale touches like Egyptian cotton linens, custom mattresses and exclusive Botanist & Chemist bath products.

The hotel also offers a full-service fitness center and concierge services that can secure Broadway tickets, arrange restaurant reservations or curate personalized city experiences. For dining, the adjacent Benjamin Steakhouse serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and craft cocktails.

The transformation of the hotel revives a landmark once central to New York’s scientific community, now catering to a new generation of visitors. The Chemists’ Club was initially founded to offer a space for academics and industrial chemists to study, meet and work. The 10-story building included an auditorium, a dining room, social areas, library and a museum. Built by architects York and Sawyer, the building was sold in the 1980s and reopened as the Dylan Hotel.
