The OTA has granted authorities access to its Authorities’ Portal to help track and report non-compliant rentals

Feb 10, 2025

The Canary Islands Government has intensified efforts to regulate holiday rentals, partnering with Booking.com to identify unauthorized listings. This move is part of a broader initiative led by the Ministry of Tourism under Jéssica de León, aimed at curbing illicit accommodations in the region.

Key takeaways

Mandatory registration: From January 2, all short-term rental providers must enroll in a mandatory registration system;

Data & geographic tracking: The government has partnered with Grafcan to leverage geographic data in monitoring rentals;

Future agreements: Authorities aim to collaborate with property registrars to strengthen inspections at local and regional levels.
