1 Hotels, the nature-inspired luxury lifestyle brand founded by Barry Sternlicht, has opened reservations for 1 Hotel Copenhagen, set to launch in August in Denmark’s capital. The property is a redevelopment of the historic Skt. Petri hotel in Copenhagen’s Latin Quarter, transforming it into a 282-room urban retreat that integrates biophilic design principles with Scandinavian craftsmanship.

The hotel reflects a commitment to mindful living, featuring energy-efficient operations targeting LEED Gold and BREEAM Excellent certifications. The design incorporates reclaimed materials, organic textures, and native greenery, including a garden supplying herbs and edible flowers for its restaurant, as well as an on-site bee hotel promoting biodiversity.

“Copenhagen is the epicenter of conscious living, leading the world in urban innovation, cycling culture, and green living. 1 Hotel Copenhagen is the embodiment of the city’s commitment to environmental responsibility and wellness—bringing together nature, heritage, and modern design to create a hotel experience that is as inspiring as it is responsible.” – Barry Sternlicht, Founder of 1 Hotels and Chairman of Starwood Hotels

Located at Krystalgade 22, the hotel offers access to key city landmarks including Tivoli Gardens and the Botanical Garden, with convenient transport links such as Nørreport Station and Copenhagen Airport nearby. The hotel promotes active exploration by foot or bicycle, embracing the city’s cycling culture.

The interiors are the product of collaboration among AvroKO, Norm Architects, Arkitema Architects, Synergy Architects, and 1 Hotels’ in-house studio. Natural materials like oak, linen, and limestone define the space, complemented by handcrafted Danish furniture. The atrium lounge features a bright, green environment with large windows overlooking a courtyard garden planted with wildflowers and herbs.

“Design is woven into the DNA of Copenhagen—it’s not just aesthetic, it’s cultural. With 1 Hotel Copenhagen, we’ve created a space that responds to that tradition, where material choices and architectural elements reflect both Scandinavian craftsmanship and our nature-inspired approach. It’s a distinctly Nordic interpretation of the 1 Hotels ethos—biophilic, rooted in place, and inherently connected to the planet.” – Raul Leal, CEO of Starwood Hotel

Each of the 282 guest rooms and suites is designed as a tranquil space, featuring natural textiles, large windows, stone sinks, rainfall showers, and sustainable in-room amenities such as eco-friendly bath products and yoga mats.

Culinary offerings emphasize local and seasonal ingredients. Fjora, led by Green Michelin-starred Chef Chantelle Nicholson, offers a menu inspired by Nordic traditions and the surrounding nature. PÆRE, the bar, focuses on seasonal cocktails using freshly foraged botanicals, while the Farmstand market-style outlet provides local artisanal products.

The hotel includes four flexible event spaces designed with natural materials and smart technology, accommodating groups from 16 to 200 guests.

Wellness facilities include The Field House Gym, open 24 hours and offering personal training and group classes. Scheduled to open in early 2026, the Bamford Wellness Spa, developed in partnership with Carole Bamford, will offer holistic treatments in a natural-materials environment.

1 Hotel Copenhagen integrates sustainable practices throughout its operation, including high-performance triple-glazed windows, smart occupancy sensors, and extensive use of locally sourced reclaimed materials. Its biophilic design incorporates interior greenery, native plantings, balcony planters, and a 3.2-meter green wall to support biodiversity and air quality.

This opening expands 1 Hotels’ footprint in Europe and reinforces its focus on combining sustainability, design, and urban wellness.
