The hotel, expected to open in 2028, will feature a variety of amenities aimed at both business and leisure travelers, including a gym, bar, flexible meeting spaces, and a large restaurant with views of nearby park areas.

Located centrally within the dynamic Södra City district, the hotel will be close to key landmarks such as Uppsala University Hospital, the Stadsträdgården park, and the Studenternas sports ground. The hotel will also benefit from its proximity to the Fyrisån River and the central station, positioning it as an attractive choice for both small meetings and larger events.

“This investment is aligned with Scandic’s ambition to grow in strategically important markets in the Nordic countries. Uppsala is an exciting destination – Sweden’s fourth largest hotel market and one of the country’s most forward-thinking cities, elements we want to capitalize on by expanding in the area. We look forward to being a part of the city’s continued development,” – Jens Mathiesen, President & CEO of Scandic Hotels Group.

The new property will be part of a mixed-use building, incorporating both hotel and office spaces, with shared lobby and entrance areas. Guests will also have access to a 100-square-meter gym. Scandic has committed to sustainability for this project, with the building set to achieve LEED Platinum certification and Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification, aligning with the brand’s environmental initiatives.

Scandic expands across Europe with new openings

Scandic Hotels continues its strategic expansion with new properties across key European markets. The brand has recently opened a new alpine hotel in Sälen, Sweden, strengthening its presence in the Nordic region. In Germany, Scandic is also expanding, with new hotels in Berlin and Stuttgart, further solidifying its position in the country’s competitive hospitality sector. Additionally, Scandic Go is growing with new openings in Göteborg and Umeå, reinforcing the brand’s presence in Sweden. These new developments demonstrate Scandic’s commitment to broadening its footprint and enhancing its offerings in both established and emerging markets.

With construction slated to begin in autumn 2025, the hotel’s opening is scheduled for the second quarter of 2028, further solidifying Scandic’s position in Uppsala’s competitive hotel market.
