Perched by the sea in Begur, Spain, Finca Victoria is a place where heritage, design, and Mediterranean spirit come together in effortless harmony. The historical house stays true to its origins while offering luxurious amenities like a wellness area, an exclusive beach club, and two dining destinations helmed by Michelin-starred chef Jordi Vilà.
Situated on a hill just steps away from one of the most breathtaking beaches along northern Catalonia’s Costa Brava, the newly opened hotel Finca Victoria is a timeless Mediterranean retreat with sweeping views of the Medes Islands. Originally built in the 1960s as a private residence where artists, politicians, and visionaries gathered, today, under the care of two Catalan families led by the matriarch Victoria, the finca remains true to its origins, embodying the warmth, beauty, and mystique of its namesake. Like the historical home, Costa Brava was once regarded as a place for celebrity-studded parties; but it is now becoming a destination for unwinding and reconnecting, for discovering the region’s natural beauty and magical villages.
Maintaining the original spirit of the home, a meticulous restoration carried out by GCA Architects preserved historical features, such as an original staircase and wood banister as well as wood-paneled ceilings. Such structures are augmented by an interior design concept—led by two of the Originals, brothers Harry and Toni Serra, with support from Post Company and Sarita Posadas—focused on contemporary additions and bespoke furniture. As a result, the stone and mortar building, evoking the grand Masias houses of Cadaqués and Llafranc, now merges harmoniously with newly added stucco walls, toba catalana ceramic flooring, and entirely custom furnishings crafted by artisans in the region.
Each of the 38 guestrooms, including 10 suites, combine comfort and sophistication. Many of the generously sized retreats are equipped with private areas for rest, work, and wellbeing: Large beds and walk-in closets often give way to lounges and living areas or terraces. Standout rooms include the Privilege Terrace, a luxurious space with a terrace, solarium, and outdoor shower with views of the sea, and the Suite Pool, which is equipped with a private plunge pool. The property’s crown jewel is the Suite La Torre, housed within the home’s original tower. Spread across three levels with a terrace, 360-degree views, and an outdoor shower, the suite can comfortably accommodate up to four people. No matter the room type, white ceramic bathrooms beautifully contrast wood built-ins and accents, which recall menorquina barcos, a common Catalonian boat, and unique pieces by local artists on the walls.
At the center of Finca Victoria are common areas that unfold around the home’s original cloister. The cloister itself has been transformed into the restaurant Al Kostat del Mar, while a second dining outlet, wellness space, and pool area can be found nearby. Led by Michelin-starred chef Jordi Vilà, Al Kostat del Mar offers a fine-dining experience with a culinary concept based on the authentic flavors of Catalan cuisine, prepared with precision and a touch of improvisation. Designed for sharing, the menu pays tribute to local ingredients and is focused on open-fire cooking, with grills integrated into the cloister’s stone archways. At Finca Kitchen and Bar, located in the central lobby and lounge and also helmed by Jordi Vilà, guests can enjoy oysters with Bloody Marys or freshly made pastas at any time of day. Be it cozied up next to the lounge’s fireplace or dining alfresco in the cloister, visitors and locals alike come together at both dining outlets, where the joy of sharing around a table is celebrated and where conversations over dinner stretch late into the night.
Those seeking more intimate experiences can unwind at the guest-only pool, where the home’s original pool is surrounded by bespoke sun loungers, personal coolers, and two shaded areas with spacious sofas—the ideal places to enjoy a light bite from the Pool Bar’s menu of casual fare. The nearby wellness area, with a sauna, Jacuzzi, gym, and two treatment rooms, offers a peaceful escape for renewal and restoration. Plus, a short walk from the hotel, guests will discover Finca Victoria’s La Caseta del Mar, an exclusive beach club serving chilled champagne and fresh oysters and equipped with plenty of fresh towels, umbrellas, and sunbeds.
