The Douglas Arms Hotel in Castle Douglas has been brought to market with a freehold asking price of £225,000.

The 18th Century former coaching inn, which sits in the centre of the Dumfries and Galloway town, comprises 23 letting bedrooms, a public bar, a restaurant and three function rooms.

It also includes a three-bedroom apartment on the first floor, previously used as managers’ accommodation.

Christie and Co said the vacant property offers potential for a new operator to work with the town’s established food and drink sector or to reposition the site for alternative uses, subject to planning.

Nearby attractions include Loch Ken, Galloway Activity Centre and the Red Kite Feeding Station, which draw visitors throughout the year.

Tony Spence, associate director for hospitality at Christie and Co, who is handling the sale, said: “This is a great opportunity to acquire a freehold hotel located in the centre of Castle Douglas. The hotel is currently vacant however it could once again thrive under the right management.

“In addition to continued use, subject to reinstatement of licence, the property also lends itself to various development opportunities, subject to obtaining planning from the local authority.”
