As World Sustainability Day approaches on 29 October, Hilton is reaffirming its commitment to redefining sustainable travel with impactful initiatives across South East Asia. From hosting carbon-neutral events to donating surplus food to local communities, Hilton hotels in the region are taking meaningful steps to reduce environmental impact while creating positive guest experiences.
These efforts are part of Travel with Purpose, Hilton’s global strategy to drive responsible travel and meet its science-based goals by 2030, while delivering positive impact to local communities. By turning its goals into everyday practices, Hilton aims to help communities and travelers alike move towards a sustainable future.
Turning Efficiency Into Measurable Impact
LightStay is Hilton’s award-winning platform for measuring and managing its environmental and social impact across its global portfolio of managed and franchised hotels. Since its introduction in 2009, LightStay has supported Hilton in achieving US$1.38 billion in cumulative savings in energy, water and waste costs.
In South East Asia, these efforts are making a tangible impact. For example, Conrad Koh Samui and Hilton Garden Inn Da Nang have achieved double-digit reductions in carbon emissions through energy-saving solutions like LED lighting, smart temperature controls, and motion-activated lighting, underscoring the long-term results of consistent energy management. Hilton Garden Inn Da Nang has also installed solar panels on its rooftop, helping to lower the hotel’s overall electricity consumption.
Sustainable Meetings, Lasting Change
Hilton is also intensifying efforts to drive more sustainable meetings and events. Through its Meet with Purpose program, meeting planners can offset their event’s carbon emissions by investing in a portfolio of verified, high-quality carbon reduction projects. These projects align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Hilton’s 2030 Travel with Purpose Goals, in partnership with ClimeCo.
Across South East Asia, Hilton hotels show how responsible meetings can inspire change. Hilton Bali Resort hosts corporate retreats that are fully carbon-offset, by sourcing ingredients from its on-site garden, utilizing outdoor spaces to reduce energy consumption, and facilitating community outreach programs to deliver a blend of eco-conscious practices and meaningful guest experiences.
In 2025, Hilton Singapore Orchard offset more than 50 metric tons of carbon emissions from MICE events in 2025 using the Meeting Impact Calculator, triple the amount offset in 2024, highlighting the growing impact of Hilton’s Meet with Purpose program. The property also recently introduced “Meetings, Elevated” menus featuring fresh, locally grown produce, in collaboration with local partners such as Fogo Fungi, which champion sustainable practices.
From Surplus to Support
Conrad Singapore Orchard actively reduces its environmental impact through innovative food waste management. By using food digesters, the hotel converts organic waste into other resources, keeping it out of landfills and incinerators. From January to July this year, the hotel processed and diverted 49 metric tons of food waste. The property also minimizes food waste by donating surplus pastries daily to Food from the Heart, a food bank that distributes food to the less fortunate in Singapore. Hilton Manila works with over 30 local farmers in Benguet to integrate locally sourced produce into the hotel’s menu. The hotel uses close to 80% of local produce, including ingredients like strawberries, purple potatoes and tamarillo, significantly reducing its carbon footprint while supporting the farmers’ livelihoods.
Hilton hotels in the Philippines and Thailand also partner with Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) to donate surplus food to local communities. So far this year, Hilton Manila Newport World Resorts has contributed 550 kilograms of surplus food to SOS Philippines, providing over 2,300 meals and preventing approximately 1.4 metric tons of carbon emissions. Conrad Manila donated 527 kilograms of food, serving over 2,200 meals and reducing around 1.3 metric tons of carbon emissions.
As one of the world’s largest hospitality companies, Hilton is deeply committed to the destinations where it operates. By combining low-impact operations with community partnerships, Hilton is reimagining how sustainable travel can contribute to a net-zero future.
