InterContinental is continuing its legacy of pioneering new destinations with the opening of InterContinental Halong Bay Resort. Within the twice-recognised UNESCO World Heritage Site, InterContinental – the world’s first and largest luxury hotel brand – will open a landmark resort overlooking green-clad mountain islands and azure, blue sea.
Against the backdrop of modern luxury and tropical comforts, InterContinental Halong Bay Resort is a sanctuary of coastal design, featuring 275 rooms, suites and villas, six eclectic restaurants, a children’s activity centre, signature spa and resplendent ballrooms and meeting spaces.
The resort’s architecture, led by WATG, reflects the heritage and vibrancy of the region, weaving together narratives from ancient folklore and celebrating the dramatic interplay of land, sea, islands and inlets that define Ha Long Bay’s natural beauty. Interiors by P49Deesign take inspiration from Vietnam’s traditional bamboo basket boats in the lobby, while the bedrooms highlight the striking colours of land and sea. Turquoise blue upholstery, brass accents, and playful textures are reminiscent of the marine life, rippling waters and iridescent pearls which surround the resort.
Six eclectic dining venues include two signature restaurants. Located on the 10th floor and opening later this year, Roku & Star Bar will serve Japanese cuisine showcasing six classic techniques: nukazuke (pickled and cold dishes), sashimi and sushi, mushimono (steamed), yakimono (grilled), agemono (fried), and nimono (simmered). This rooftop destination with sweeping views of the bay will also feature a curated Sake Library and a dramatic bamboo installation inspired by the descending dragon legend of Ha Long.
Further eateries now open include Marina Kitchen, a seafood speciality restaurant serving modern coastal cuisine; La Baguette, a French-Vietnamese bistro; Del Mar, a poolside lounge bar inspired by the floating village of Cửa Vạn; and Vue, the light-filled lobby lounge space offering afternoon tea, cocktails and complemented by bay views.
Hidden Lagoon, the resort’s signature spa, offers wellness treatments inspired by the tranquillity of Ha Long Bay. In collaboration with luxury British beauty brand Margaret Dabbs London, and Australian clean beauty brand Sodashi, the spa delivers a range of treatments from healing facial rituals to nurturing, sensory therapies. Recreational amenities also include beach volleyball, outdoor archery and three swimming pools.
The family-friendly Planet Trekkers kids’ club welcomes children aged 4 to 12 with culturally immersive activities such as conical hat painting, canvas bag decorating, candle making and face painting. For teens and families, The Game Room features a cinema, internet gaming and classic favourites including billiards, darts, foosball and air hockey. A collection of versatile event spaces ideal for milestone celebrations and corporate gatherings are also within the resort and include the grand Tonkin Ballroom and elegant Cat Ba Ballroom.
InterContinental Halong Bay Resort is a demonstration of the transformative evolution which is rolling out across the InterContinental portfolio worldwide. Reimagining the luxury experience for today’s modern luxury traveller, this evolution is driven by InterContinental’s long-held belief that travel can expand minds and connect cultures, satisfying the desire of today’s guest for unrivalled knowledge and culturally rich experiences.
The resort joins a global portfolio of over 231 InterContinental hotels – including 7 in Vietnam – part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury & lifestyle portfolio, one of the world’s largest. In 2026 InterContinental will celebrate its 80th anniversary.
