Knowing the importance of data privacy and the potentially catastrophic effects of a cyberattack, STAAH over-indexes on security features. Find out more.

As technology becomes more advanced so does cybercrime. As hoteliers acquire more data from guests, ranging from personal details to credit cards for payments, ensuring cyber safety has been more critical.

Hoteliers have typically been slow adopters of technology; however, this is different. The impacts of a data breach or payment card fraud, for example, are far-reaching, damaging, and costly. It’s not only your pocket that takes a hit but also your reputation.

Modern hoteliers consider safeguarding sensitive information against cyber threats a critical need when assessing technology partners. This sentiment flows through to online travel agents (OTAs) that process billions of bookings each year. Ensuring their connected technology partners follow robust cyber security measures is imperative to a successful integration.

As a distribution and booking platform partner to more than 20,000 hoteliers with 500+ integrations, prioritising data security through robust protocols and industry-leading practices is a core pillar of STAAH’s technology. It is these measures, along with STAAH’s early adoption of latest OTA features to help hotels realise their full potential that has earned it a top-rated status with industry leaders such as Booking.com and Expedia.

Prioritising Cyber Security and Best Practices 2In this blog we understand the cyber security measures taken by STAAH to ensure your peace of mind.

1. Encryption and secure protocols: STAAH uses HTTPS with TLS 1.2 to secure data in transit, ensuring safe communication channels. TLS 1.2 replaces the MD5/SHA-1 combination in the digitally signed element with a single hash, ensuring increased security in negotiation during the handshake. It also provides improvements to both the client’s and the server’s ability to designate algorithms for the hash and the signature. Additionally, it supports increased authentication encryption and adds TLS extensions and AES cipher suites.

2. Data storage and encryption: Data is encrypted using AES256, including credit card details as per PCI-DSS standards, ensuring confidentiality. A global standard to process, store or transmit cardholder data and/or sensitive authentication data, PCI-DSS standard maintenance has always been a priority for STAAH since its foundation.

3. Policy framework: Our stringent data privacy policy exceeds regulatory requirements, safeguarding personal and reservation data stored on AWS Aurora. “It takes decades to build a reputation, and only few minutes of a cyber event to destroy it,” says Gavin Jeddo, Founder, STAAH Ltd. “This has been a guiding light as we established our platform and scaled it to its current heights, without any cyber incidents. We pride ourselves on this achievement.”

4. Continuous monitoring and compliance: We employ advanced cybersecurity measures like regular audits and compliance with global data protection regulations. It is not uncommon for our team to work closely with our hotel partners, educating them and their teams on best practices to stay cyber safe – beyond our platform.

5. Educational resources: Our privileged position as transmitter and bank for massive rows of sensitive data enables us to understand this area well. Our engineering teams dedicate regular time stay informed with regular updates and resources on cybersecurity best practices to enhance internal data security measures. They would love to share their learnings with your teams to secure the net further for hackers.

Prioritising Cyber Security and Best Practices 1Conclusion

At STAAH, safeguarding your data is an unwavering commitment. Together with its customer and channel partners, STAAH is paving new paths to navigate the digital landscape securely.
