The Ritz-Carlton will soon be debuting in Serbia. Marriott International has signed an agreement with Danube Riverside d.o.o. Beograd to open a Ritz-Carlton hotel in Belgrade.

The Ritz-Carlton, Belgrade is expected to welcome guests from 2027.

The new-build hotel is planned to be a part of the revitalization of the former Hotel Jugoslavija. Located in the Zemun municipality, the legendary hotel was one of the first luxury hotels to open in Serbia. Considered to be one of the most modern hotels of former Yugoslavia, the hotel first opened its doors in 1969 and has since hosted several personalities, including U.S. Presidents Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter and Queen Elizabeth II. The storied hotel fell into disrepair and suffered damages during the NATO bombing in 1999. The hotel was privatized and closed in 2006 and was acquired in 2013 for a reported €31.3 million and renamed Danube Riverside.

The Ritz-Carlton, Belgrade will feature 193 rooms and suites as well as two dining venues and The Ritz-Carlton Club experience. The hotel will also offer a range of facilities, such as an indoor pool, a fitness center, spa and more than 1,700 square meters of meetings and events space.

“Serbia continues to grow as an important business and leisure destination and the signing of The Ritz-Carlton, Belgrade reflects our commitment to expand our portfolio of brands and experiences in its progressive capital and the broader region,” said Sandeep Walia, COO, Middle East & Luxury, Europe, Middle East & Africa.

The hotel will be situated on the Nikola Tesla Boulevard, on the Danube riverfront, close to government institutions and the business district. The location will also provide easy access to Stark Arena, Sava congress center and Belgrade’s old town.

“On the site of the former Hotel Jugoslavija, a modern complex will rise becoming a prestigious new destination in Belgrade designed for both our fellow citizens and tourists from around the world. We believe this project will bring new energy to Belgrade and strengthen its position on the global map of luxury destinations,” said Ivan Bošnjak, director of Millennium Team and representative of Danube Riverside d.o.o. Beograd.

The Ritz-Carlton, Belgrade will form the centerpiece of a project, which will also include residential and office towers, a conference center, marina and a promenade.

Currently, Marriott International operates four properties in Serbia — The St. Regis Belgrade, Sheraton Novi Sad, Courtyard by Marriott Belgrade City Center and Moxy Belgrade.

At present, The Ritz-Carlton has more than 120 hotels across over 35 countries. The brand has two extensions — Ritz-Carlton Reserve and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. Ritz-Carlton Reserve is a collection of estates, while The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection includes ultra-luxury cruises.
