Satori, which takes its name from a Japanese Buddhist term for awakening or enlightenment, will open on St Mary’s Row on Wake Green Road is Moseley. It is described as representing ‘a moment of sudden insight or understanding, often considered the pinnacle of Zen practice’.

The restaurant, which is claimed to be the city’s first fine dining Japanese venue, is being launched by FB Holdings, which runs Birmingham restaurants including The Mayan in The Mailbox, Baloci in Edgbaston and Qavali in Brindleyplace, according to BirminghamLive.

Images posted on the restaurant’s Instagram page show a dark dining room with a large dragon motif on the wall, black marble topped tables, and grey banquette seating.

Director Sharath Sundar told the publication that the restaurant would be a “once in a lifetime fine dining experience” and that there was a gap in the market for a Japanese fine dining restaurant in Birmingham.

“Carters has left some big boots to fill, but we think we’re up for the challenge,” he said.

“Brad Carter was able to achieve a Michelin star in this space, which is incredible, and of course that’s always the aim. Hopefully one day, we’ll get there.”

Carter announced the closure of his eponymous restaurant in August last year after 13 years in business and plans to reopen it in a new central Birmingham location in the coming months.
