Opening fully later this month on Cavendish Place in Marylebone, the second Abuelo will serve an Australian style brunch with a twist of Latin American flavours.

The menu is described as being produce-led, and highlights will include the Abuelo Cubano; Peruvian chicken sandwich; and mango and passionfruit compote with vanilla whipped mascarpone on brioche.

There will also be a strong coffee offer, made with Latin American beans, which will rotate depending on what is best in any given season. Cold drinks will include a dulce de leche coffee and a cardamom and hazelnut cold foam iced coffee .

For the first time, Abuelo will open later this month in the evenings as a natural wine bar with a DJ on Saturday nights. It will serve small sharing plates, including smashed ‘chicken’ salt potatoes; Sloppy Jose (sweet and spicy beef dripping mince, parmesan, soy cured egg yolk); half Peruvian roast chicken with aji verde; deli meats and cheeses sourced from small farmers.

For dessert will be a Vegemite salted caramel brioche.

The restaurant will have a list of wines produced by ‘small and unusual’ growers and a cocktail selection from cocktail bar Tayēr + Elementary.

There will also be a takeaway element.

The interior will feature large communal tables and vintage lighting and chairs sourced from the Netherlands. The focal piece will be a marble counter which was created from mixed off cuts of marble that may have otherwise been waste material.

“The design-led venue serves elevated yet casual food alongside delicious coffee and friendly service and incorporates a home away from home feel,” says co-founder Cloe De La Vega.

“We want people to come in, sit back, relax and feel as if they are sitting in someone’s kitchen.”

Abuelo is also understood to be opening two more sites in the capital, on Cork Street in Mayfair, and in Soho.
