Glasgow Marriott has secured two environmental certifications: the internationally recognised Green Key and The Pledge on Food Waste accreditation.

These accolades demonstrate the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint.

The Green Key eco-label is awarded to hotels and other establishments that meet rigorous sustainability benchmarks in energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and sustainable product use.

By earning this certification, Glasgow Marriott strengthens its reputation as an eco-friendly destination.

The Pledge on Food Waste certification highlights the hotel’s proactive approach and measurable reductions in food waste.

Part of Marriott International’s overall sustainability programme, Glasgow Marriott has adopted innovative food waste reduction strategies through the integration of Winnow AI technology, which tracks real-time food waste data, and optimises ordering, menu planning and portion sizes, without compromising the guest experience.

In addition to achieving these certifications, Glasgow Marriott has implemented several impactful initiatives to further its environmental commitment. These actions include the introduction of ‘Meat Free Mondays’ in the Associate Canteen, promoting plant-based meals to reduce meat consumption’s environmental impact.

The hotel has also eliminated 100% of plastic bottles, plastic straws, and stirrers from its operations and has removed single-use plastics from the newly refurbished guest rooms.

Coffee grounds from the hotel’s daily operations are also repurposed as fertiliser, ensuring that they are diverted from waste streams and used for sustainable purposes.

“We are incredibly proud to receive these certifications,” said Chris McGuinness, General Manager of Glasgow Marriott. “They reflect our team’s dedication to not only delivering service excellence but also ensuring that we play our part in protecting the environment.

“The Green Key and The Pledge initiatives align with our group’s commitment to sustainability, and we look forward to continuing this journey by providing a responsible and eco-conscious stay for our guests.”
