Amex Global Business Travel has proposed a remedy to address U.K. competition concerns over its CWT merger

Nov 26, 2024

According to the CMA’s summary, Amex GBT has proposed to open up CWT’s entire travel partner network to competitors post-transaction. This would give competing travel management companies (TMCs) access to work with local TMCs in 90 countries that are currently exclusive to CWT.

Key takeaways

  • Customer Commitments: Amex GBT has committed to cap product and service fees in existing contracts with large global clients for two years following the merger, provided that the scope of services remains unchanged;
  • Service Levels: GBT committed to maintain current contractual service level commitments and to continue to invest in improvements at or above pre-transaction investment levels during this period;
  • Potential Divestments: If deemed necessary by the CMA, Amex GBT is prepared to divest some of CWT’s large global clients with significant UK business to a competitor, providing immediate scale for the competing TMC.
