Radisson Hotel Group is introducing its Radisson Collection in Madrid and will be converting the iconic Generali building into a luxury hotel. Located on Alcala Street, a prominent avenue in the Canalejas area surrounded by luxury brands such as Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Cartier, the hotel is expected to open in 2027.
The heritage-protected classical building will undergo a transformative redevelopment, which will convert it into a mixed-use development with premium retail spaces on the ground floor, 154 hotel rooms spanning 10 floors and a rooftop offering views of the city.
The hotel will offer a signature restaurant and bar on the first level, a rooftop bar and restaurant on the 13th floor with views of the city, a fitness center, wellness center and a spa.
The hotel will act as a catalyst to accelerate the development of Radisson Hotel Group in Spain, where the company has eight operational hotels, said Federico J. González, executive vice chairman of Radisson Hotel Group. Generali is a strategic partner of Radisson Hotel Group and the partners previously collaborated on the Radisson Collection Hotel, Roma Antica in Rome and the Radisson Collection Hotel, Palazzo Nani in Venice.
The project is being developed in collaboration with the Lamela architecture studio.
The property’s location provides proximity to Madrid’s cultural and historical attractions, including Puerta del Sol, the Cibeles Fountain, National Museum El Prado, Plaza Mayor and El Retiro Park.
“The transformation of the iconic Alcalá 21 building into a Radisson Collection hotel represents another important step in our ongoing growth as investors in the European hospitality sector, with an incredible asset that enriches Generali’s hotel property portfolio,” said Benedetto Giustiniani, head of Southern Europe region at Generali Real Estate.
Radisson Collection’s portfolio comprises around 65 hotels in operation and under development worldwide. Recent signings include the brand’s entry into Paris; the signing of Radisson Collection Residences, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia; the brand’s third hotel in Saudi Arabia; and the signing of Radisson Collection Residence, Amman Abdoun in Jordan. The brand recently opened hotels in Rome and Srinagar, India. Upcoming openings in 2025 include Radisson Collection Hotel, Basilica Budapest in Hungary; Lincoln Casablanca, a Radisson Collection Hotel in Morocco; Radisson Collection National Resort, Brussels in Belgium; and Radisson Collection Lake Como.
