The Social Hub is expanding its footprint across Europe. The hybrid hospitality brand is venturing into the Portuguese market and will be doubling its footprint in Italy, amid plans to open three new hubs in early 2025 in Porto, Florence and Rome.

The move will bring the Amsterdam-based company’s portfolio of hubs — which consists of hotels, student accommodation and coworking spaces under the same roof — to 21 across 19 major cities in Europe. These include places like Amsterdam, Barcelona and Paris.

The Social Hub Porto, which will open in Portugal’s second largest city, will mark the brand’s first property in the country ahead of further expansion into Lisbon planned in the coming years. This will also be the first The Social Hub venue to include long-stay apartments as the brand’s hybrid hospitality proposition evolves.

The new hotels in Florence (The Social Hub’s second location in the city) and Rome will help establish the brand’s community-centric, hybrid hospitality model in neighborhoods across Europe. Both projects are part of the company’s commitment to regenerative projects, helping convert unused and empty sites into hospitality spaces.

“Our first new hub in the Italian capital of Rome, our second in Florence and our debut into Portugal represent landmark developments for The Social Hub brand. They will be huge assets to their communities, bringing a unique hybrid hospitality model that provides purpose-driven experiences within beautiful spaces and new public facilities,” said Marion Koopman, The Social Hub’s chief operations and commercial officer.

The Social Hub Belfiore, Florence

Set to open in Florence’s San Jacopino neighbourhood in February 2025, bookings will open later this month. A 7,000-square-meter rooftop public park that can be accessed by an outdoor staircase will be the signature feature of the 550-key hotel. Offering a total of 80,000 square meters, the hub will include coworking space for more than 600 persons along with restaurants, bars, meetings and event spaces, a rooftop Olympic-length pool and a public commercial avenue to nurture local businesses.

The Social Hub Rome

Slated to open in March 2025, bookings will go live from January 2025. The 24,000-square-meter, 392-room hotel will open in the San Lorenzo area. Designed to be a “city within a city,” the hub will provide a “destination venue” embodying the spirit of the historic Ex-Dogana, the former railway customs building, which was located on the grounds. Consisting of three main structures, which will have a new, contemporary main building and refurbished spaces housing the Accademia Italiana and an event venue. The hotel will also have a rooftop bar and pool, restaurants, coworking space for 160 persons and event spaces. A 10,000-square-meter public park connecting the spaces will be the hub’s showstopper.

The Social Hub Porto

Set to open in spring 2025, this 310-room hotel will be located in Bonjardim. Situated close to the University of Porto and the city’s business district, the hotel will have a rooftop bar and pool. Dining options, coworking facilities (including a media studio) and event spaces. Marking a first for The Social Hub, the hotel will also feature 39 fully equipped apartments of up to two bedrooms.

Founded in 2012, The Social Hub’s total portfolio includes 23 properties, including 18 hotels and more than 10,000 rooms.
