Japan is preparing to welcome its first Rosewood Hotels & Resorts property. The luxury hospitality brand will be opening Rosewood Miyakojima in the Ryuku Islands on a remote island in Okinawa.

Slated to open on March 1, 2025, the property has already started accepting reservations.

The resort sits on a peninsula among sugarcane fields in the island’s northern part overlooking the Oura Bay and offers direct access to a beach. The property features 55 beachfront and ocean view villas, with views of Miyakojima’s waters, as well as three houses.

The resort has been designed by Dutch architect Studio Piet Boon and is built sustainably, while making full use of the original terrain and partnering with a local community. The resort’s architecture draws inspiration from the history, landscape and culture of the Ryuku Islands and blends indigenous Okinawan materials, such as Ryuku limestone with the Japanese spirt of wabi-sabi.

Rosewood Miyakojima will have four restaurants and bars, an infinity pool by the beach, a spa with six treatment rooms, yoga studio and fitness center, kid’s club and a private pavilion overlooking the ocean for events and gatherings.

The resort will offer a range of activities that will help guests connect with the local culture and explore the island. These range from calligraphy with a local artist, snorkeling over coral reefs and educational programs for both adults and children led by environment and marine ecology experts.

Rosewood manages a collection of 33 luxury hotels, resorts and residences across 21 countries. Each property embraces the brand’s philosophy of reflecting the location’s history, culture and sensibilities. The brand’s collection includes some well-known hotels and resorts, including The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel in New York; Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas; and Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel in Paris.
