Brintons, the heritage carpet brand, is proud to announce the launch of its first carpet collection in collaboration with the V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum). Available for the commercial market, the Design Discoveries collection features six striking designs inspired by the extraordinary works of French artist Emile-Allain Séguy’s pochoir creations, in the V&A collections.
Séguy, celebrated for his innovative and captivating depictions of natural forms, became well-known in the 1920s for his geometric interpretations of butterflies, motifs which have fascinated designers for decades. The new carpet designs showcase the enduring beauty and versatility of Séguy’s artistic vision.
Designs have been specifically selected and reimagined for Brinton’s commercial clients, carpets can be selected from the inspirational designs as they are shown, recoloured using Brintons Design Studio Online platform or customised by working in collaboration with the Brintons design team to meet individual project requirements.
Design Studio Online (DSO) allows designers and commercial customers instant access to the new carpet collections. The Design Discoveries carpet range will be available for commercial clients from November 2024.
Jodie Hatton, Design Manager at Brintons, comments on the new collection: “We are so excited to be able to bring to life Séguy’s albums. When searching the V&A archives for this project I could instantly imagine the patterns from these albums making beautiful carpets. The abstracted large-scale beetles and butterflies create these wonderful modern shapes which we have textured to make them more suited to high traffic areas. We worked on a truly global scale for this collection with designs created by our talented in-house design team including all regions; USA, Australia Pacific and Europe. The colour palette was chosen from the colours which our designers were spontaneously drawn to for the patterns and revised to be slightly more harmonious.”
Amelia Calver, V&A Brand Licensing Research and Development Manager notes: “This collaboration captures the V&A’s mission of inspiring design by drawing from its collection of pattern books to create a range of Brintons carpets that feels both modern yet rooted in the past. Brintons’ new collection celebrates the enduring influence of Art Deco and introduces natural motifs into spaces with a contemporary twist by reimagining Séguy’s characteristic bold shapes, vibrant colours and intricate patterns.”
