STAAH, a leading technology company helping hoteliers unlock their full revenue potential, has unveiled its list of distribution channels that brought the highest booking revenue to hotels in key tourism destinations across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines, over the past year.

STAAH’s list of top distribution channels is based on hotel reservations that have passed through its channel manager network of 500+ integrations across the world.

Reaffirming the value of having a diversified hotel distribution strategy, the list once again features a range of both B2B and household consumer channels – from OTAs to hotel websites, wholesalers and global distribution systems. Wielding unmatched reach and budgets, OTAs continue to dominate by influencing every stage of trip planning and booking.

In Malaysia, Agoda, Booking.com, Trip.com, Tiket and Traveloka get the top five spots. Direct bookings via hotel websites slowed down in the region, down two spots. Expedia and Hotelbeds remain a chart topper while Hong Kong-based Klook made its first appearance on the top 10 list. STAAH GDS retained the number 9 spot on the top 10 list, reaffirming its consistent and dependable performance

We’re living in a new era of hotel guest – travellers who are more evolved when it comes to booking behaviours and preferences,” says Michelle Yong, Regional Head, STAAH. “Our data highlights the willingness of hoteliers to adopt both new and established methods to attract these customers, as they pursue a more holistic hotel commerce strategy to sell, market, manage and grow their business.”

Traveloka was the chart topper in Indonesia, followed by Booking.com and Agoda. The Indonesian travellers continued to demonstrate their brand loyalty by booking direct via hotel website, which was on the number four spot on STAAH’s top channels list. Expedia, Trip.com, local OTA MG Group and STAAH GDS also retained spots on the list. Hotelbeds and Airbnb were new entrants on spots nine and ten.

The Southeast Asian hospitality and travel industry is projected to maintain a steady growth rate, and this is expected to continue over the next five forecasted years. Thailand and Singapore are leading the surge while Malaysia and Philippines have been slower. Vietnam has seen a dramatic increase in popularity as a tourist spot with a dominance of luxury accommodation.

“Accommodation providers that continue to adopt a more holistic online commerce strategy, consisting of both new and established methods, can expect to reap the benefits of the region’s projected hospitality and tourism growth,” says Prayoga Handayaprana, Regional Head – Indonesia, Thailand & Philippines, STAAH.
