Travelodge, the UK’s leading budget hotel brand, has recently signed an agreement to acquire the former Ibis hotel located at Bromley Mall, in Bromley town center, southeast London. The hotel is set to open by Easter 2025, marking a new milestone in the brand’s expansion across the UK.

The company has signed a 25-year lease with the building owner and will begin renovating the 59-room property this month. This project is part of a series of strategic investments aimed at strengthening Travelodge’s presence in London, where there is strong demand for quality budget accommodation.

“We are open to a range of development types, such as office conversions, acquisitions of going concerns and forward funded new developments, and are keen to explore all available opportunities.” – Steve Bennett, Director of Property and Development

Continued Growth in London

London remains a key focus for Travelodge, which is actively seeking expansion opportunities in the capital. The company has already identified over 100 potential sites for future hotels in London. The group is exploring various development models, including office conversions, acquisitions of existing establishments, and forward-funded projects.

Travelodge is also expanding in other parts of London. In addition to the Bromley hotel, the company recently acquired an office building in St Paul’s for conversion into a 95-room hotel, subject to planning permission. Furthermore, a new site in Upminster, London, will soon see the opening of an 82-room hotel.

An Ambitious Development Plan in London and Beyond

Travelodge continues to develop in several London neighborhoods, with three hotels currently under construction in Beckenham, Chiswick, and Stratford. The group is actively seeking new opportunities within the M25, ranging from new builds to office conversions and deals with local authorities.

The Bromley Mall Project: A Turning Point for the Mall

Mike Lewis, Partner at Michael Rogers, who acted for Bromley Mall, expressed satisfaction with the transaction:

“We were delighted to represent Bromley Mall Limited in this transaction which follows other recent successful lettings of retail units in the mall to Gopuff and Rhino Boulder. Our clients are in the process of finalising plans for a comprehensive face-lift of Bromley Mall which I am confident will attract considerable interest once the works have been completed”.

In this way, Travelodge continues to strengthen its leading position in the UK’s budget hotel sector, responding to the high demand for quality, affordable accommodation in major cities.
