IHG Hotels & Resorts has introduced its midscale conversion brand, Garner, to the Asia Pacific region with the opening of its first three hotels in Japan. This milestone reflects the rapid international growth of the brand, designed to offer affordable, relaxed stays with a focus on guest convenience.

The newly opened hotels — Garner Hotel Osaka Honmachi Station, Garner Hotel Osaka Honmachi Midosuji and Garner Hotel Osaka Honmachi Kita Semba — welcome guests in Osaka, Japan’s second-largest metropolitan city. Each property blends local culture and modern amenities, catering to travelers seeking comfortable stays at competitive prices.

The three properties each bring their own character, celebrating different facets of the city’s rich history:

  • Garner Hotel Osaka Honmachi Station: This modern hotel embodies the spirit of Osaka, combining contemporary design with a vibrant atmosphere that celebrates the city’s present energy.
  • Garner Hotel Osaka Honmachi Midosuji: Blending tradition and modernity, this hotel incorporates natural materials and a Zen-inspired color palette, offering guests a peaceful and convenient stay.
  • Garner Hotel Osaka Honmachi Kita Semba: Paying homage to Osaka’s history as a bustling merchant town, this hotel features green-toned designs emphasizing harmony with nature and sustainability.

Each hotel also includes Osaka-themed illustrations in guest rooms, along with Garner-branded sleepwear to enhance comfort. As Garner continues its expansion in Japan, it aims to provide “easy-going stays that get you on your way.”

“We’re thrilled to bring another new brand to Japan with the opening of our first Garner hotels in Osaka,” said Abhijay Sandilya, managing director for Japan & Micronesia at IHG Hotels & Resorts and CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan. “Affordable, easy-going hotels are an increasingly popular choice for travelers in and outside of Japan and our Garner brand is perfect for those looking for a relaxed stay that’s full of character.”

Garner hotels prioritize simplicity and guest-centric features, such as self-check-in stations, 24/7 snack and drink options, and well-designed rooms. A signature Garner feature wall at each hotel, called ‘Sketches of Humanity,’ reflects the diversity of the brand’s guests and its mission to bring people together.

Launched in 2023, Garner opened its inaugural hotel in Auburn, Wash. within three months of the brand’s announcement. At the time of the brand’s launch, IHG was aiming to achieve 500 hotels in 10 years and 1,000 properties in the next 20 years in the U.S. alone. Garner made its European debut in November 2024, with the first set of hotels opening in Germany as part of IHG’s partnership with NOVUM Hospitality. Garner has also signed several new properties in Europe, which will help the brand add locations in Germany, Netherlands, Austria, U.K. and Turkey.
