A historic landmark in San Antonio, Texas is getting a modern makeover. The Continental Hotel, a long-standing piece of the city’s architectural history, has been transformed into furnished apartment units for short-term stays, now available for booking.

The project is the result of a partnership between hospitality and multifamily operator Placemakr and developer Weston Urban.

The revamped property, The Continental, powered by Placemakr, offers 28 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom furnished units, available for stays starting in March.

The Continental is part of Weston Urban’s larger revitalization of the Continental Block, a 1.9-acre project that will also add 290 mixed-income housing units and 22,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. The effort aligns with other major investments in downtown San Antonio, including the expansion of the University of Texas at San Antonio’s downtown campus and the San Pedro Creek restoration.

“Being a part of this restoration project with Weston Urban is exciting for us at Placemakr because it gives us the opportunity to bring an innovative concept into an iconic historic building,” said Jason Fudin, CEO and co-founder of Placemakr. “This launch is set to rejuvenate not just only the building itself, but the entire surrounding area, enabling guests and residents to get the most out of this super cool neighborhood in San Antonio.”

Weston Urban first announced its plans for the Continental Block Development in August 2023, outlining a vision to renovate two historic buildings and construct a new 16-story residential tower. With the launch of The Continental, Placemakr is bringing its signature blend of apartment-style living and hotel services to the city, offering travelers an immersive San Antonio experience.

“With The Continental, we’re looking to restore something special to our community that will feel like a natural fit,” said Randy Smith, CEO and co-founder at Weston Urban. “We’re excited to partner with Placemakr to bring this historic building back to life and offer a unique style of flexible living in downtown San Antonio.”

A tech-enabled operating company and real estate investor, Placemakr transforms multi-family properties into a mix of modern apartment living and hospitality.
