The extended-stay hotel market in Richmond, Va. is expanding with the opening of ECHO Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham, a brand-new hotel developed by Sandpiper, LLC.

This marks the first ECHO Suites property in Sandpiper’s portfolio and adds to Wyndham’s growing presence in the extended-stay segment.

The new ECHO Suites is part of a broader push by Wyndham and its development partners to expand affordable extended-stay options within the U.S.

ECHO Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham Richmond will be managed by Sandpiper Hospitality, which oversees a growing portfolio of more than 65 hotels. Sandpiper now owns 39 properties across eight brands in 12 states.

“We are very excited about our first ECHO Suites hotel,” said Carter Rise, founder, chairman and CEO of The Sandpiper Companies. “It is a beautiful, intelligently designed building that will offer our customers a great stay experience and excellent value for their money.”

Sandpiper has three additional ECHO Suites properties under construction, two more in development and more under consideration. The Richmond-based company develops its portfolio through ground-up development and selective acquisition of performing and non-performing properties.

ECHO Suites is designed to offer a simple, modern and affordable lodging experience, focusing on cleanliness and efficiency. Announced in 2022, the brand opened its inaugural property in Spartanburg, S.C. in July 2024. Wyndham has invested heavily in the brand, seeing demand for consistent, new construction extended-stay hotels across the country. The new-build, 124-key prototype required less than 2 acres of land and spans 50,000 square feet. All properties offer single and double queen suites with storage spaces, a cooktop and full-size refrigerator along with a fitness center and laundry facilities.
