Luxury hotel group Maybourne has officially announced its expansion into Paris with the opening of The Maybourne Saint-Germain in 2027. Located in the Îlot Saint-Germain, a 17th-century building, the property will feature a 101-room hotel and 23 ultra-luxury branded residences.
Situated between Boulevard Saint-Germain and Rue Saint-Dominique, the Îlot Saint-Germain is a listed building that has long been occupied by the Ministry of Defense. Its transformation into a hotel and residences will mark a new chapter for this historic site, with a project that seeks to preserve its heritage while incorporating contemporary elements. The hotel will offer 50 suites and 51 rooms arranged around a central courtyard, as well as six dining venues, including a Japanese restaurant, a patisserie, and a Salon de Thé.
The residences will be designed by French interior designers Pierre-Yves Rochon and Laura Gonzalez. Pierre-Yves Rochon will design seven units located along Rue Saint-Dominique, while Laura Gonzalez will create the remaining sixteen residences on Rue de l’Université. The property will also include Surrenne, Maybourne’s new wellness and longevity brand, which will feature one of the largest luxury spas and wellness clubs in Paris.
Among the announced amenities, the hotel will have three pools, including a 30-meter rooftop pool and a private 25-meter pool exclusively for residents. A third indoor pool will complement the property’s wellness offerings. The group’s goal is to create a property that aligns with its luxury standards, similar to its other properties in London, the French Riviera, and Beverly Hills.
The opening of The Maybourne Saint-Germain is part of the group’s broader expansion strategy. Gianluca Muzzi, co-CEO of Maybourne, highlights that this Parisian project reflects the group’s ambition to establish itself in the world’s key luxury capitals.
“Paris, with its elegance and timeless style, is a perfect match for Maybourne’s vision of luxury hospitality. Our presence in this iconic city reflects our commitment to creating exceptional experiences that celebrate the local culture and our brand’s dedication to excellence. This opening marks an exciting step in our selective development strategy in the world’s key gateway cities, allowing us to build meaningful connections with our guests through rich, distinctive experiences.”
Towards global expansion in luxury hotels
Maybourne, owned by Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani and Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, currently operates six prestigious hotels: Claridge’s, The Connaught, The Berkeley, and The Emory in London, The Maybourne Riviera on the French Riviera, and The Maybourne Beverly Hills in California.
With plans to triple its portfolio over the next decade, the group aims to reach between 15 and 17 properties by 2035. To achieve this, Maybourne intends to develop a portion of its hotels under management contracts rather than through direct ownership.
In addition to the Paris project, Maybourne is working on the renovation of a historic building in the UK and the development of new hotels in New York and Dubai.
Looking further ahead, the group is exploring expansion into Asia, with projects in Tokyo and Singapore. With The Maybourne Saint-Germain, Paris becomes a key strategic destination for its future development, reinforcing the brand’s position in the ultra-luxury hotel segment.
