One of the biggest “understated” technological advancements of the modern day, is the progression of artificial intelligence, according to some industry leaders.

DataArt, an enterprise software development company, and GoogleCloud, hosted a private executive dinner last month, in collaboration with Travolution, to bring together top thought leaders from across the sector to discuss the capabilities of AI.

To the backdrop of a networking drinks reception and a three-course dinner, attendees heard how investing in AI empowers competitive advantage, doing nothing is “dangerous” and the important of data strategies, people and process.

Thirty representatives from prominent companies across the industry – including Awaze, Ennea Partners, On the Beach, Oneworld, and Virgin Atlantic – attended to hear from speakers from the likes of Google Cloud and Trip.com.

“At Trip.com, AI handles 97% of routine enquiries, like baggage allowances or terminal details, so we can respond quickly and accurately,” said James Spalding, regional director of flights, northern Europe of Chinese-owned OTA, Trip.com.

“This gives our contact centres more time to focus on complex issues, where human expertise makes all the difference.

“It’s this balance of technology and personal service that helps us support travellers at every step of their journey,” he said.

James Thornton, head of sales – retail and lifestyle at Google Cloud, shared his personal opinions on it during the discussion.

He said: “AI is generating a lot of buzz, but the reality is, for once the hype might actually be understated.

“We’re starting to experience a transformation that will touch every facet of our lives, from how we work and communicate to how we learn and create.

“Businesses that recognise this and proactively adopt AI will not only gain a competitive edge – they’ll be the ones shaping the future.”

Prakhar Srivastava, principal enterprise data and AI consultant, aviation industry at Trivista, lamented the importance of it.

“Technology is advancing at hypersonic speed – AI today, Quantum tomorrow,” he said.

“Your true edge lies in your data and the continuous investment in building your people and process capabilities.”

Nick Boni, senior solutions consultant of DataArt, who moderated the panel discussion on the night, said: “Our dinner was a fantastic opportunity for industry leaders to come together and discuss the topics we are passionate about: travel and technology.

“Working alongside Google Cloud and Travolution, DataArt is on a mission to create an engaging space for sharing ideas and having fun!

“We were able to share real examples of AI solutions in production and the results.

“As we look ahead to 2025, it’s exciting to explore the new possibilities that lie ahead for our industry.”

He added: “We look forward to continuing these important conversations throughout the year.”

On the night, DataArt also awarded two $5,000 for DataArt Lab services prizes as part of a lucky draw.
