Meliá Hotels International strengthens its presence in Palma with two major projects: the renovation of the Gran Meliá Victoria, with an investment of 10 million euros, and the transformation of the Palacio Avenida into an Innside hotel, marking the brand’s expansion in the city.
These two projects illustrate the strategic direction of the group led by Gabriel Escarrer to expand its network in Palma and Mallorca.
Palacio Avenida: A New Innside in the Heart of Palma
The Palacio Avenida hotel, located in the central Avenues district of Palma, will be transformed into an Innside hotel, the third of its brand in the city. This historic building, previously home to the Avenida cinema, is now owned by Meliá after being managed by UR Hotels. With this change, Meliá will increase its number of hotels in Palma to nine and to 25 in Mallorca. The Palacio Avenida, inaugurated in 2009 after the renovation of a protected rationalist-style building designed by architect Gabriel Alomar, will retain its original architecture while being adapted to Innside brand standards.
The project is part of Meliá’s efforts to continue developing its hotel portfolio in Palma, as Gabriel Escarrer mentioned during the Fitur 2025 trade fair. The Palacio Avenida, with its 68 rooms and 3 conference rooms, preserves certain elements of its history, such as the façade and the interior staircase. It also offers views of the Bellver Castle and the Serra de Tramuntana.

Gran Meliá Victoria: Ongoing Renovation
In parallel, Meliá is investing €10 million in the renovation of the Gran Meliá Victoria, one of its flagship hotels in Palma. This 171-room property is undergoing a transformation entrusted to the ASAH architecture firm, led by architects Álvaro and Adriana Sans. Although the ME brand is being considered to return to the island, the Gran Meliá Victoria will retain its current brand.
The Gran Meliá Victoria is part of the eight hotels acquired in 2021 through a partnership between Meliá, GMA, and Bankinter. The renovation of this hotel is part of a broader project to update the entire area, including the Paseo Marítimo and Gomila, with other ongoing projects like those of Garden and Piñero. This renovation allows Meliá to maintain a high-end offering in Palma, while fitting into a broader framework of regional development.
Ongoing Growth in Palma and Mallorca
These projects are a testament to Meliá’s commitment to strengthening its presence in Palma while contributing to the expansion of the chain in Mallorca, where the group now has 25 hotels. Through the introduction of new concepts like Innside and the renovation of its properties, Meliá continues its development in the Balearic Islands, consolidating its network in an ever-evolving tourist region.
In conclusion, these projects demonstrate Meliá’s ability to modernize its properties while preserving their character, an approach that allows the group to adapt to market expectations while maintaining a local footprint. The Palacio Avenida and Gran Meliá Victoria are notable examples, and other projects could follow in the coming months.
