W Edinburgh, one of the city’s newest 5-star properties, was officially named Scottish Hotel of the Year 2025 at the Hotels of the Year Scotland Awards. The hotel triumphed over five strong nominees, reinforcing its position as a pioneer in Scotland’s luxury scene with judges citing the property offers ‘the epitome of excellent hospitality’.

In addition to securing the hero award of the evening, W Edinburgh was also recognised for its impeccable food and beverage and wellness offerings, claiming the top spot in three further categories:

  • Lifestyle Luxury Hotel of the Year 2025
  • Cocktail Bar of the Year 2025 – awarded to W Edinburgh’s secret apartment speakeasy  Joao’s Place, inspired by São Paulo, Brazil, and serving quality crafted cocktails on W Edinburgh’s impressive 11th Floor
  • Spa Treatments Award of the Year 2025 – awarded to W Edinburgh’s AWAY Spa, an hidden oasis in the heart of the city, offering elemental-inspired treatments

Since opening in late 2023, W Edinburgh has redefined modern luxury in Scotland’s capital,  offering a unique blend of bold design, vibrant experiences, and world-class hospitality with charming professionalism. Located in the heart of Edinburgh’s newest neighbourhood, the St James Quarter, the five-star hotel is a destination in itself, from the Ribbon building to the historic Georgian townhouse, James Craig Walk, featuring cutting-edge dining, innovative mixology, and indulgent wellness experiences.

The esteemed judges relay that guests can “expect a fabulous, special VIP experience staying at W Edinburgh, from the moment you arrive in the reception lobby of the iconic, circular, copper clad Ribbon building”, praising the “charming professionalism” of the “welcoming and enthusiastic” team across the property.

The Scottish Hotels of the Year Awards celebrate excellence across the hospitality industry, recognising establishments that push boundaries and elevate guest experiences. This year’s competition was particularly competitive, with Edinburgh’s thriving hospitality scene showcasing an exceptional roster of nominees.

Ken Millar, General Manager at W Edinburgh, commented: “We are thrilled to be recognised as Scottish Hotel of the Year 2025, particularly in such a competitive landscape. It is testament to our talented team who have worked incredibly hard to bring this property to life over the past year. We are honoured to be part of the vibrant Scottish tourism sector and are thrilled to continue offering our esteemed guests our now award-winning W hospitality.”

Guests at W Edinburgh can indulge in an array of luxury experiences, from unrivalled 360-degree views of the city from the hotel’s W Lounge and W Deck and 10th Floor SUSHISAMBA restaurant, and signature cocktails at Joao’s Place – recently crowned Cocktail Bar of the Year with judges describing the cocktails to be “finely curated and artistically presented”. The Brazilian Bambo cocktail – consisting of Abelha Cachaca, Umeshu Sake and orange bitters is a particular stand-out with judges praising the “fruity, apricot taste” and noting “the Sake wine gives a rounded texture to this delicious tipple”.

Furthermore, experience rejuvenating one-of-a-kind treatments at the now award-winning AWAY Spa, where every treatment links back to the elements which inspired the interior design of the spa.
