Mama Shelter has announced the opening of a new hotel in Toulon, scheduled for January 2028, in a unique historic building. This project marks the brand’s expansion in the south of France, contributing to the transformation of Toulon’s city centre.
A historic, central location
The future Mama Shelter Toulon will be located in the former bishop’s palace, an emblematic building in the city’s old centre, on the Cours Lafayette. This venue has hosted a number of events, including the Design Parade, which has contributed to its reputation as a centre for culture and design.
‘The project devised by Mama Shelter in partnership with the Sebban Group and the City of Toulon will offer a unique place to live. Nestled in a completely renovated historic building, this hotel will stand out for its bold, playful and non-conformist spirit, true to the brand’s DNA’ – Josée Massi, Mayor of Toulon
The Mama Shelter touch
‘Of the 19 Mama Shelters we have around the world, this is the one that will have the most charm’ is how Mama Shelter founder Serge Trigano describes this new address.
The hotel will have around 100 rooms spread over five floors. The visual concept of the establishment will be faithful to the spirit of Mama Shelter, with a design and offer centred around lifestyle.
The heart of the hotel will feature a restaurant and bar, set around a century-old plane tree and under a glass roof. There will also be a terrace overlooking Place Paul Conte.
A project that is part of Toulon’s revival
This opening is part of the drive to revitalise Toulon city centre, with projects such as the renovation of the Halles Biltoki, which has become an essential gastronomic venue.
As Josée Massi says, ‘I’m delighted to see this ambitious project taking shape in the heart of our old town centre, which is the focus of a major urban regeneration project undertaken by Hubert Falco’.
In choosing Toulon, Mama Shelter is part of a regeneration process, contributing to the development of new, trendy living and accommodation spaces. This project represents a turning point for Toulon, which is seeing the arrival of modern concepts while retaining its authenticity.
‘We have a real vocation for revitalising secondary towns’. – Cédric Gobilliard, COO Europe, Ennismore
France, Mama Shelter’s playground
Mama Shelter, which is already established in Nice, Rennes and Dijon, is continuing to expand in towns that are undergoing a major revival, and Toulon, with its strong tourist potential, is becoming an attractive destination.
While the brand is making no secret of its ambitions to expand internationally, with openings planned in Dubai, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Liverpool and Lake Como, it has not forgotten its roots and is continuing to expand on the French market, as demonstrated by this new establishment.
